Project Overview

The Tampa Bay Estuary Program (TBEP) and the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) entered into a cooperative agreement to develop a comprehensive integrated suite of models to evaluate potential management actions to improve water quality, sediment characteristics, and expand seagrass coverage in Old Tampa Bay. The suite of models included a watershed model, a hydrodynamic model, a water quality model, and a series of natural resource models. As part of the project team, ATM developed a comprehensive hydrodynamic model that covered all of Tampa Bay with specific emphasis on the circulation and hydrodynamics within Old Tampa Bay. Following calibration of the full suite of models to available data, the models were run under different management scenarios and the impacts to the hydrodynamics, water quality and natural resources within Old Tampa Bay were evaluated and the management scenario benefits ranked.
