Project Overview

To reduce effluent nutrients to meet the requirements of the Lower St. Johns River Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for nutrients in the Lower St. Johns River Basin, the City of Neptune Beach hired ATM to upgrade their wastewater treatment facility. After evaluation, ATM initiated design, engineering and permitting efforts to bring the City’s facility up to advanced waste treatment standards. Due to minimal available space for expansion, the design included modifying an existing contact tank and construction of a new partition wall within the tank and retrofitting and increasing the height of an existing stabilization tank to include a 4-stage Bardenpho process that incorporated Integrated Fixed-film Activated Sludge (IFAS) technology for improving effluent quality. Results from these improvements shows effluent total nitrogen at or below 2.0 mg/L.
