Project Overview

ATM was retained to assist the project team with the redevelopment of a resort hotel property which was damaged and closed following Hurricane Luis in 1995. Our team completed a coastal engineering assessment and investigation of potential coastal hazards to inform the siting and design of a proposed new hotel and resort development.

This assessment included documentation of historical erosion rates, a site visit to document and observe existing site conditions, consideration of sea level rise, and prediction of extreme event occurrences (tropical systems and their impacts to the beach and proposed infrastructure). As a result of the coastal hazard risk analysis, ATM made recommendations for site plan adjustments, minimum construction setbacks, building construction elevations (FFEs), native beach preservation, shoreline protection where required, and beach performance monitoring.
