ATM provided master plan support services and specific coastal engineering analysis for the redevelopment of a 115-hectare island off the coast of Belize.
Thor Urbana is developing a luxury island destination and put together a team of consultants to develop a master plan. ATM first provided engineering and environmental support to the site analysis and planning, including marina consulting, coastal engineering, and environmental restoration opportunities.
As part of the master plan development and refinement process, ATM provided specialized services to quantitatively assess design options and generate input for coastal resilient design. Our team conducted bathymetric surveys and tide studies, hydrodynamic modeling to evaluate water exchange of proposed marina options, and comprehensive wave modeling studies to determine extreme event conditions. The thorough coastal vulnerability analysis of the island generated quantitative data to determine design parameters equivalent to US standard flood maps, as well as analysis of sea-level rise impacts. This was probably one of the most comprehensive quantitative analyses of coastal vulnerability done for a private developer in the Caribbean islands.
