Applied Technology & Management, Inc. to Present Four Papers at Water Environment Federation's TMDL Conference in Chicago

Gainesville, Florida— Four senior staff from Applied Technology and Management, Inc. (ATM) have been selected to present professional papers at the upcoming Water Environment Federation’s (WEF) TMDL conference in Chicago. The WEF-TMDL Annual Conference is the water resource industry’s premier event for water quality professionals and regulators to converge, network and exchange information regarding TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) development and implementation, as well as well as other water resources management issues.

“The TMDL conference is a golden opportunity for water resources firms and scientists to share their research and techniques with other water quality experts,” said April Grippo, an environmental scientist and TMDL specialist at ATM. Grippo, who has spoken at previous WEF-TMDL conferences, will present her paper, Cooperation in Implementation: Setting Goals Using NPDES Phase II, which addresses how cooperative efforts by regulatory agencies and stakeholders can provide alternatives to numeric effluent limit reductions for TMDL implementation. “TMDLs are a hot issue in today’s water resource management,” said Grippo, “and everyone in attendance stands to benefit from the research presented.”

Steve Peene, Ph.D., vice president and director of ATM’s water resources division, said he is not surprised that four of his senior scientists and engineers are presenting papers. “ATM has some of the brightest scientists in the industry when it comes to modeling and managing TMDL development and implementation,” said Peene. “These particular individuals are well-respected both by regulators and the regulated community for their outstanding work with TMDLs.”

Other ATM staff whose papers were selected for presentation at this year’s conference are Jack “Bo” Ellis, P.E. (Implications for TMDL Development from Proposed Harbor Modifications), Tony Maglione, vice president (Pre-and Post-Development and Non-Point Source Loading Study), and Daniel Mendelsohn, senior engineer (3-D Modeling of Anthropogenic Impacts to Dissolved Oxygen in a Stratified Estuarine Environment). The WEF-TMDL conference will be held at the Chicago Westin Hotel Michigan Avenue from November 15-19.
