West Palm Beach, Fla. –
Applied Technology & Management, Inc., has teamed with EDSA and Landmark
Spain on planning the marina basin and boating infrastructure for Marina
de Cope—a 5,000-acre mega project in Murcia, Spain, slated to be the
largest tourist resort development in all of Europe. EDSA, an
internationally renowned planning and landscape architecture firm that
partnered with the Spain office of Landmark Land Co., Inc., was selected
over 20 other competitors in an international design competition.
Marina de Cope will be an ultimate destination catering to 20,000 hotel
guests with 9,000 residential units and two mixed-use town centers—a
marina village entertainment district and a cultural civic center. A
high-quality sports complex intended to capture an international market
will offer five golf courses, tennis, soccer, cricket, and polo, making
it the prominent sports facility in Europe. EDSA called upon ATM to
incorporate a 69-acre “epic” marina basin as part of the program.
“We are introducing the marina planning and design criteria that enable
the development of internationally renowned yacht destinations,” says
Esteban L. Biondi, senior engineer and project manager with ATM.
The proposed marina basin is divided into several sectors which will
each have its own design, style, and functional
characteristics—especially aimed at fulfilling and exceeding the
expectations of different segments of the nautical, tourist, and
residential market. Each sector will have the most advanced
infrastructure design details, targeted to each market segment in order
to best serve visiting vessels, guests, and crew. These sectors include
a Marina Village (18), an Ultra Luxury Super Yacht Center (19), a
Residential Marina (20), a Sailing Club, and a Dry Storage Facility.
“We are particularly excited about the features we will include in our
‘flower,’” says Biondi, referring to the Super Yacht Center.
“Marina de Cope will have an extraordinary impact on Spain’s future
tourism development,” says Jose Jaguan, associate principal at EDSA.
Construction should commence in 2007 with an estimated 15-year timeline.
Upon completion, a solid investment of over $4 billion will have been
made to bring a positive and vital transformation to the Murcia region
and all of Spain.
