Project Summary:
In order to meet the requirements of one
of the fastest growing communities in the Savannah area, the City
of Pooler is in the process of significantly expanding its existing
wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal facilities. ATM
assisted the City's engineers, Hussy, Gay, Bell and DeYoung with
meeting the Georgia Environmental Protection Division mandated
requirement for conducting a Watershed Assessment and developing
a Stormwater Management Plan. ATM developed and attained EPD approval
of a Watershed Assessment Work Plan. The plan included physical
and hydrologic evaluations of the watershed areas, a water quality
sampling plan, as well as biological assessments on Hardin Canal,
Pipemakers Canal and Little Ogeechee River.
ATM managed the wet and dry weather water quality sampling program
and conducted the in-field biological assessments. After evaluation
the resulting data with respect to possible point and nonpoint
source impacts, ATM produced a report of the findings identifying
water quality concerns and possible point and nonpoint sources.
The report also included detailed descriptions of available stormwater
Best Management Practices (BMPs) and a methodology for estimating
pollution loading from new developments and determining the types
and amounts of BMPs necessary to reduce or eliminate resultant
loadings. Finally, ATM provided recommendation for implementation
of a Stormwater Management Plan that would implement BMPS in order
to reduce pollution caused by runoff from new developments.
