Project
Summary
ATM
coastal engineers developed a Beach Nourishment Plan for the Town
of Palm Beach, Florida. The one-mile project was developed based
on an analysis of coastal survey data, and geotechnical investigations.
ATM engineers developed a plan for a supervised field acquisition
of vibracore sediment samples to confirm material suitability, and
refine the area of cut within a previously identified borrow area.
A 900,000 cubic yard beach nourishment project was designed to provide
total protection for 15-year storm design. Design plans and specifications
were prepared. A field of 11 groins was designed using 26-ton concrete
modules, foundation mattresses, and armor rock to reinforce the
beachfill. ATM conducted final phases of the project which included
final design specification, government permits and approvals, establishment
of Erosion Control Line, obtaining Federal and State grants and
permits, all bidding contract documents, contractor selection, and
contract award.
A fast-track schedule provided all construction permits in three
months. A comprehensive biological and performance-monitoring program
was developed and implemented. A highly unique project maintenance
program was formulated with a 10-year permit to allow for timely
implementation. Construction of the project was completed in March
1996 with ATM responsible for all construction management services.
